Touched by Chaos
The Touched by Chaos table is rolled whenever a character is exposed to direct chaos corruption: a chaos-infected dart trap, picking up chaos-infected hidden treasure, eating from the Gospel of Chaos book, certain chaos infection events, or entering the Sancta Sanctorum secret.
Halflings may reroll this table once and take the better result.
Touched by Chaos Table (d6)
| Roll | Effect | |---|---| | 1 | Body rejects the invasion. Take 1 wound. | | 2 | Chaos repelled, but scarred. Take 1 wound and gain 1 Madness. | | 3 | Take 2 wounds and 1 Madness. If killed or driven insane by this result, the character is immediately reborn as a random Chaos Weird Monster — no resurrection possible. Equipment falls to the ground and may be claimed by allies. | | 4–6 | Chaos transformation begins. The character starts turning into a chaos monster. When they are killed or driven insane for any reason, they immediately transform into a random Chaos Weird Monster and attack the party. To stop the transformation: the character must slay a chaos boss or weird monster singlehandedly (party may not assist), then receive a Blessing spell immediately afterward. |
Clearing Chaos Taint
Results 4–6 create a lasting condition. Clearing methods:
| Method | Effect | |---|---| | The Cleansing Ritual secret scroll | Removes all chaos taint effects; one use per copy | | Help from Above (Unique Event 5) | Available only if the character has no chaos taint |
Note: a character in result 4–6 is still alive and functional — the transformation only triggers on death or madness.
