Clues & Major Secrets
Finding a clue during a search adds a CLUE mark to that character's sheet. When a character accumulates three clues (across the current adventure or a campaign of linked dungeons):
- The character earns one bonus XP roll.
- The player picks one major secret from the list below for that character.
A character's secret is permanent — it sticks across adventures unless the rules state otherwise.
Base-game secrets
- Monster weakness. Pick one boss type. The whole party gains
+2to Attack against that monster type for the whole combat in which it appears. Lasts one adventure. - Deal with a monster. Declare that you have a standing agreement with one monster type encountered this adventure (not vermin, not the final boss). They let you pass without combat — but you collect no treasure from them.
- Location of secret treasure. During this adventure, declare any one empty room (not the entrance) to be a hidden treasure room. Roll normally for hidden treasure complications and amount.
- Scenario-specific secrets. Individual scenarios and DM-mode home dungeons may add their own.
Notes
- A character can hold multiple secrets across a campaign — but each requires its own three clues.
- A character with a secret may still find more clues; they stack toward the next secret.
- The XP roll from converting clues is in addition to combat-earned XP rolls.
